7 Mile Isle is a versatile band blending steel drums, bass guitar, drum set and percussion into a lively and unique style. The band combines the traditional styles of the Trinidad and Tobago calypso and soca, along with other Carribean, Cuban, and Brazilian styles.
"Just Now" is 7 Mile Isle's first recording, featuring original music composed by members of the band. The steel drum is a relatively new instrument, only about 50 years old, and has very little original repertoire. The songs are in a variety of Caribbean styles, ranging from soca and calypso, to reggae and cha-cha.
The "Live at E.J. Thomas Hall" CD marks The University of Akron's first ‘Live Recording’ of the steel band. We brought together a "Dream Team" of steel band performers from the U.S. and Trinidad to perform with the group.
Special Guests included: Andy Narell, David Rudder, Ray Holman, Cliff Alexis, Pan Ramajay, Nelson Braxton, and Kalani. This memorable concert is a Gem, and this timeless, Grammy Nominated CD captures the essence of this special event. Enjoy!!
A Kiss for Christmas" is The University of Akron's first studio produced Christmas CD and is dedicated to Stanley L. Morgan. This CD has been made possible through the generosity of Eloise M. Morgan, who wanted to fulfill her late husband's dream of an album of Christmas music performed by the band.
Mr. Morgan had a lifelong love of music and especially enjoyed percussion performances. We hope you enjoy this CD as much as we do!

This CD, by the Danish trio Sumi, has created a unique contemporary sound using steel pans, guitar, rhodes and machines. The trio’s starting point is a musical openness with ample space for experimenting and pursuing spontaneous ideas. The musicians manipulate the sounds of their instruments with various effects, and the result is a wide range nuanced soundscape. Sounds and pieces of melody are recorded during performances and used as loops and detached samples. These elements along with the members’ different musical backgrounds have resulted in a beautifully intuitive album where no musical style is defined, but where melodic fragments converge into expressive sound collages.
Mikkel Sorensen: guitar + machines
Rasmus Riis: rhodes + machines

"Lornabarret” is the new CD by steel pan combo The Pantastic 4, a group which fronts steel pans and marimba as the melodic voices, accompanied by guitar, bass, and drums. The 12 original compositions by Scott Johnson are written in Latin and Caribbean styles and have simple but catchy melodies. All but one of the tunes has a section for the members to improvise.
