"A Beginner’s Reggae" was written as a pedagogical piece for bands that have younger students or bands that are just starting out. It can also be used to an introduction to the style of Reggae and encourage the students to listen to artists within that style, as well as be used as a tool to teach cut time and playing with a swing feel.

A few notes: Though there are no fill measures marked in the Drum Set part, the director could instruct the student where fills can be incorporated into the part once the student becomes more comfortable with the groove. The form of the piece can be left up to the discretion of the director. If there are extra performers to play extra percussion parts, here are some recommendations to add to the groove: (For the Güiro/Scratcher part, perform one long scrape from the top to the bottom of the instrument)

Difficulty: Easy (great for junior high, high school, and college steel bands)

Instrumentation: tenor/double seconds/cello-guitar/bass/drum set/percussion
