Berimbau Angola Palmares is an arrangement of the popular bossa nova tune Berimbau. It features the vocal traditions of the capoeira roda, the Ladainha and Corridos, and the capoeira instrument, the berimbau. It features the toques, Angola and São Bento Grande de Angola, from the capoeira group, Capoeira Angola Palmares, under Grand Mestre Norival Moreira de Oliveira. The composition opens with an arrangement of a traditional Ladainha from Capoeira Angola Palmares and transitions into the bossa nova style. The solo bossa nova style of the guitar has been integrated into the piece for the upper voices while the bass guitar and atabaque is replicated in the lower voices voice of the piece. The berimbau solo sections are actual capoeira Corridos that are layered in such a way as to build each solo section to a musical apex. The piece also features a solo section for the lead or double tenor voices. To be performed, it will require an experienced capoeirista/musician who is proficient in berimbau.  Capoeira academies are located throughout the United States and throughout the world in most major metropolitan areas. This piece would be a great way to introduce your audiences to a new genre of world music as well as a great concert closer!

Difficulty: Medium (great for high school and college steel bands)
