This song by Kees Dieffenthaller, better known as Kes, was released in late January 2023, just a bit too late for any Trinidadian steel bands to arrange for Panorama 2023. The first time I heard it I knew I wanted to arrange it for my top college steel band.

Having your students listen to the source material is essential. My arrangement follows the form of the song pretty closely and is in the same key as the original, G major. I also did my best to transcribe the vocal parts as closely as possible to the original. I did leave out a few of the vocal flourishes to make the arrangement more playable.

The difficulty of the parts is spread throughout the band. It isn’t just the Lead/tenor pans with the “hard” part. Each section will have its own share of challenges to make this song translate well to your audience.

Rolls- I've been using a single slash to indicate 1-handed rolls (mostly in Dbl TN, Dbl 2nds), and a double slash for 2-handed rolls.

Drum Chart- This part is really just for navigational purposes. The drum part on the original, played by Hans Dieffenthaller, is creative and fits the song perfectly. I highly recommend borrowing ideas from the source material as you create a drum part that works well for you and the band. Tricky rhythms and the length of the song, (just over 4 minutes) are the challenges in this arrangement.
