"The Ascent" represents the journey one goes through when overcoming a difficult challenge. Your goal may look as far away as a mountain top, but it is important to not let this discourage you. First, focus on what your first step will be and take it! Along the journey to reaching your goal, you will inevitably encounter obstacles which will try to stop you. Do not stop! When things feel lost, push through to reach the summit. At long last, you reach your goal and take in the spectacular views of your achievement. Time to find your next mountain!

This piece will take you through a variety of rhythmic feels and has many opportunities to play musically. Players 1 and 2 should play all notes marked with an "x" on the rim. Select your mallets carefully and strive for great ensemble balance throughout the piece. Key Signature: c minor. Time Signature: 4/4 with one measure of 2/4. Tempo: 132 bpm. Duration: 2' 45".
