Arranged for Steel Band by Mat Britain 

“Breakdown” was composed in 1990 by Len “Boogsie” Sharpe for the Phase II Pan Groove Steel Band. It is a typical up tempo Soca tune with a moderately simple melody in the lead pans and a unique chord progression, typical of Boogsie’s compositions. The body of the tune is fairly simple, but in the variation section the lower pans take over the melody with the leads playing response/echo type lines. The second half of the variation is a tribute to the very rhythmic but static lines Boogsie has used in numerous variations (Pan Rising, This Feelin’ Nice). This tune was arranged for the Vanderbilt University (Intermediate) Steel Band in 2005.
