Tyler Swick, born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, attended The Las Vegas Academy where he premiered his first arrangement for percussion ensemble. While in high school, Swick joined the Calypso Coyote Steel Drum Band, directed by Robert Bonora, and began his pursuit of the steel pan. Though not studying composition, Swick premiered multiple works before being accepted into the University of Kentucky where he studied with Provost Distinguished Director, James B. Campbell. Professor Campbell has coached Swick in composition for percussion ensemble and steel band, allowing Swick to premier pieces with the UK Steel Band and undergraduate recitals. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Swick will begin his masters at the University of Iowa, where he plans to continue his production of steel pan compositions and arrangements.
