“The Death of Aase”, second movement of Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, is a hauntingly beautiful piece originally written for strings, and it adapts perfectly to rolled notes in a steel drum ensemble. The lack of accessory percussion parts allows room for musical interpretation and stretching of tempo to support the phrasing and bring out the rich chord progressions. It can be performed with a strict tempo for younger bands, or with as much musical expression as your band can handle!

Difficulty: Easy/Medium (great for high school and college steel bands)

Instrumentation: tenor/double tenor/double seconds/cello/bass
