Drifting is a laid back Bossa Nova that clocks in around 3.5mins in length. There are 4 distinct musical phrases to learn. The first is a characteristic bossa rhythm shared by all except the basses. The second is a flowing melody played mostly by the tenors and passed to the seconds at the end. The third helps build the tension up to the chorus. The last distinct section at letter D can be thought of as a chorus but it is a laid back glide instead of your standard highest and lowest section being the chorus.

Drifting evokes the image of a small boat drifting aimlessly on the water. As waves lap up against the sides it is gently guided in a direction and then back again. The “chorus” (letter D) really highlights the feeling aimlessness. It also gives me a similar feeling to drifting off to sleep. This piece should be generally mellow and never rushed.
