"El Arroyo Gue Murmura" ("the stream that murmurs") is considered the first Cuban Guajira ever written. Cuban guajira was an adaptation of the "punto Cubano" style of music known in Spain since the 18th century, where it was called "punto de La Habana". The Cuban guajira preserves the characteristic rhythms and modal mixture of its ancestors, the punto Cubano. The meter is a hemiola of 6/8 and 3/4 known as sesquiáltera. The form alternates a first section in minor mode with as second section modulating to major while maintaining "G" as the tonic. This pan arrangement by Michael Huestis is the perfect way to teach this classical Cuban guajira musical style to young students. The bass part is written for both bass pans and/or a bass guitar and includes a written tenor pan solo is provided for students without improvisation experience.
