"Las Alturas de Simpson" is the canonical first danzón song, and certainly one of the most important in Cuban music history.  Las Alturas de Simpson was performed on New Year’s Day 1879. This pan arrangement by Michael Huestis is the perfect way to teach the danzón musical style to students. The arrangement calls for a traditional Cuban danzón percussion section including timbales, bongo, and guiro. The bass part is written for both bass pans and/or a bass guitar.
