"Panology" is, by definition of the title, a study of pan. This work was my first intense study of a pan ensemble in order to actually write a piece for steelband from my own creative and compositional process. Even playing in steelband, the calypso feel was something that took me a while to get adjusted to when compared to Western music that's commonly played in the United States. I had to sit down with a calypso loop to write the original melody of the piece. After a process of trial and error, the result was the work "Panology" as it is. It utilizes some different strum patterns and even noodles around in 2:3 clave a bit. It is a good piece for high school or collegiate steelbands.

Difficulty: Medium (great for high school & college steel bands)

Instrumentation: tenor/double tenor/double seconds/cello-guitar/bass/drum set/percussion
