Suzie is an original composition for steelband by Trinidadian steelpan legend, Ray Holman. It was composed in 1991 in Arcata, California for the California State University Summer Arts “Percussion in World Music” program, where Ray Holman was an artist in residence, and it was also used as a feature composition for the 1991 University of Oshkosh Steel Drum workshop. Suzie features a beautiful off-beat melody and simple, but very lush, chord changes. The arrangement features beautiful lines for every section of the steelband, and the classic two-chord structure of the open solo section makes the arrangement very accessible for soloists of every level of expertise.

Difficulty: Easy (great for junior high, high school and college steel bands)

Instrumentation: tenor/double tenor/double seconds/cello/bass/drum set/engine room
