Song to the Chiracahua was composed by Clifford Alexis in the summer of 1988 at the University of Arizona Steelpan Workshop in the Chiracahua mountains of southern Arizona. This is an original funk tune for steelband that features a smooth minor verse section followed by a powerful chorus section that features unison counterpoint punch lines in the lower pans. The open solo section over the changes from the verse and chorus is ideal for a soloist who wants to work on their improvisational skills. The medium-paced tempo and deep funky groove of this tune makes for a perfect contrast to faster calypso and soca tunes on any steelband program.

Difficulty: Easy/Medium (great for junior high, high school and college steel bands)
