Difficulty: Easy (great for middle school & beginning high school steel bands)

"Snow Day" was written during a snowstorm that closed my school. The snowfall inspired me to write a chart where the steel pans sang like a choir. The focus of the smooth legato rolls on the pans recreates the image of snow falling on the ground. I recommend starting to learn letter G first. Each steel pan plays a descending F major scale, starting with the tenors and ending with the bass pans. This same scale can be used in the open solo section in letter D. An accompaniment part was written for double seconds, triple guitars, and basses, but these voices can take a solo as well. The director can choose to keep the pulse steady at 80 bpm or allow the piece to flow in and out of that tempo.
